The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task” (1 Timothy 3:1).
I wrote this post riding a train from Denmark to Hamburg. At the kind invitation of Rev. Leif Jensen, the President of the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church of Denmark, I traveled to Aarhus last Thursday. Over the past four days, I had the privilege of teaching on six-day creation and spiritual warfare at Gratia Church, Aarhus. Then, on Friday afternoon, President Jensen, his son Tobias Jensen, Stefan Jensen, and I took the car ferry to Odde, Seeland. From there we drove to Martins Church in Copenhagen, where I had been requested to preach in the Saturday morning service and then lead the subsequent Bible study. On Saturday afternoon we returned to Aarhus, where I preached and led the Bible study this morning. Blessed with great passion to share the Gospel with everyone he meets, Tobias is one of our fifty-three seminarians at Riga Luther Academy and loves to collect books on Lutheran theology. I met him three times in the past three months: in Kenya for our Luther Academy intensive; in Finland for the Corpus Christi conference, and now in his homeland. Stefan (no relation to the other two Jensens) is also Danish and currently studying at Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne. The three things that Stefan would take with him to a desert island would be the Bible in Hebrew and Greek, the Book of Concord, and YouTube. A very tall young man, he is a self-described “Super Lutheran” and loves working with young people. I look forward to hearing more about these fine young men in the future.
