One of this month’s highlights was the first real-life get-together of Riga Luther Academy’s students and staff—at a one-week intensive at the Old Latin School and “Kolleg” in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany. After “knowing” one another only from Zoom, it was a joy to finally meet in person. Students and staff from Latvia, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, Germany, and the United States studied, received the Lord’s gifts of Word and Sacrament, and had wonderful fellowship time in the epicenter of Lutheranism. Unfortunately, our students from Africa and Pakistan could not attend due to visa issues. Our keynote speaker and instructor was Rev. Dr. Arthur Just of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, teaching Liturgics. Leveraging her IT skills, Lula made sure all attendees—both in-person and over Zoom—could follow the events, regardless of their physical location. Yours truly served as chaplain and conducted most of the services (Matins, Evening Prayer) in the chapel of the Old Latin School. Our next Riga Luther Academy in-person intensive is scheduled for April 2022 in Latvia—God willing!
