In the past 7 years Germany has received over 1.3 million refugees from the Middle East—and many of them are eager to learn about Jesus! 1 in 3 migrants from Iran are eager to learn about Jesus or are already secret Christians before they reach Germany. But since Christianity is illegal in Iran, they could not be baptized or catechized in their homeland. Once they get to Germany, however, so many of them visit some congregations of our German partner church (the SELK) that our German friends have requested help from the LCMS. They need pastors (and laypeople!) who can speak German and are willing to learn Farsi. That is why we—the Tiews family—are joining a number of LCMS missionaries already serving in Germany—to help share the Gospel with all!
