“I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and His might, and the wonders that He has done” (Ps 78:2-4). *** Dear friends, as I write this, I am filled with optimism regarding the future of faithful Christianity in Northern Europe. Lula and I have just returned to Hamburg after attending the Corpus Christi conference in Lutherstadt Wittenberg (see below). What a privilege to experience this stunning event on your behalf, to see the next generation of faithful Lutherans grow in their faith. While in some corners of the world, faith in Jesus Christ may seem to be retreating, in others it is blossoming—in many cases in Third World countries, as I report to you regularly. But what is amazing in this case is that it is also reawakening in regions that once were strong in the faith (Northern Europe) but fell away—yet are now reawakening in our young people. What a miracle! Lula and I thank you for all your continued prayers and support that allow us to take part in this comeback, as in more and more places the Gospel is faithfully proclaimed and the Sacraments rightly administered. God bless you all this summer and “talk” to you next month!
